Children's A&E

Southport lost Children's A&E Services 20 years ago when Maternity Services were moved to Ormskirk. Originally though Children's A&E was a round the clock service staffed by paediatric specialists. That stopped during the Covid pandemic.

Should Children's A&E be open 24/7 ?

During the pandemic, Southport & Ormskirk NHS Trust announced that Children’s A&E would close overnight. However, this temporary measure still remains in place with Children’s A&E closed between midnight and 8am. This means a child in Southport would have to get to Alder Hey Hospital in Liverpool, a 45 minute drive away.
